Education

Public schools in Canyon Lake are a part of the Comal Independent School District. Students from Pre-K through grade 5 attend Startzville Elementary and then move on to Mountain Valley Middle School for grades 6 through 8. At the high school level, the school district provides four high schools in addition to an alternative school in surrounding local areas. Canyon Lake parents looking to keep their children in a single school from grades 1 through 12 have the option of enrolling their children into Trinity Charter School, which provides specialized education and enrichment courses throughout the school’s curriculum. Texas State University, San Marcos is just over an hour away from Canyon Lake.

Eight park areas, Canyon Park & Canyon Beach Swim Area, Comal Park, Crane's Mill Park, Guadalupe Park, Jacob's Creek Park, North Park, Overlook Park, and Potter's Creek Park were created and are maintained by the Corps of Engineers. Popular activities around the lake include camping, swimming, scuba diving, boating and picnicking. Hikers, cyclists, and equestrians will find plenty of opportunities at the lake as well as some limited areas designated for archery hunting. Bank fishing is available in all park areas, and a 24 hour fishing dock can be found in Cranes Mill Park on the south side of the lake.
